TECHNICAL TIP

Technical Tip May 2012

Avaya IPO SCN and Fallback over ISDN:

To limit calls over IP Trunk in a small community network due to bandwidth and/or Fallback to PSTN in the event of WAN outage you can do the following:

  1. Set the Number of outbound and voice channels to the appropriate value (can also be 0 if you want to route all calls over PSTN)
  2. Set the timeout on that IP Trunk to 1 or 2 seconds
  3. Create a ne ARS called **NET**
  4. In that ARS, cover the extensions to the other side with a shortcode. E.g. 4XX, Dial, 004922196374NSi4411234572E, Group ID=ISDN Trunk outbound

For Avaya IP Office:

1. If you administer a User Button on a Phone (16XX and 14XX) to monitor the state of another User you can see if this one is available or busy.
You can also see, if this User is being called. If you then press that button, you´ll directly pick that call without knowing the caller Number or Name. To have that information, check the "DSS Status" in System/Telephony.

2. To have a one touch transfer of a call to a User (which is represented as a button on another users phone) add the value: Enable_OTT in the Users Sourcenumbers.

February 2012

Avaya Networking SW-Release 6.2.3.x: ERS 5510, OSPF, IGMP, VLACP
Problem:

OSPF interfaces only stand in 2Way-handshake!
The ERS 5510 in the OSPF default are set to "operational mode non-5510". This can easily be verified with the command <show running-config verbose module l3-protocols>. Switch to the "config mode" and the OSPF "operational mode" on 5510 with the command set to <ip ospf op-mode 5510>. After a "Disable / Enable OSPF <no / router ospf enable / router ospf enable > the" 5510 op-mode "is then set and the OSPF interfaces change state to" full "and the OSPF routing works.

IGMP is as OSPF set in the default setting to "operational mode non-5510". This can be verified with the command <show running-config verbose module ipmc>. Switch to "config mode" and set the IGMP "operational mode" to 5510 with the command <ip igmp op-mode 5510>. Then press "yes" to confirm. Now VLACP also works!

January 2012:

Positioning of DECT base stations in case of increased demand in the channel:

For reasons of increased demand in the channel (through use of many handsets at one location), it may be necessary to install several base stations on a building site. In this case, make sure that the base stations have a minimum horizontal distance of 2.5 m and that the vertical distance is at least 25cm, so that the base stations do not influence each other negatively

December 2011:

Avaya Energy Saver
The Avaya Energy Saver solution manages the energy consumption according to the use of equipment and the building.
It manages the power consumption of devices, "throttles" the consumption during off-peak times and even switches off devices with lower priority that are not needed after office hours.

Extreme Networks Ridgeline Service Advisor

As radius server for user authentication is no longer included in the current version of Extreme Networks Ridgeline Service Advisor, here's a little tip.
The built-in Radius Server (Free radius) is tailored to the feature XNV and cannot be used for user authentication.
The radius server (Freeradius) occupies port 10559, so ports 1645 and 1812 can be used for any radius server such as IAS, etc. for user authentication on the switch.

For Extreme Networks:

Stacking in XOS 12.5 - Stacking Licenses
The master of the stacks indicates the stack license. All members in the stack must have the same license. Switches that have a higher license must be limited to the stack license by using the command:
"configure stacking license-level X". In this command, the license will not be deleted. This is followed by a reboot. Switches that have a lower license must be updated to the stack license.
